Samsung Electronics announced that it has installed the world’s first commercial Cinema LED screen at Lotte Cinema in the Lotte World Tower in South Korea. This is an HDR LED cinema display. During its development, Samsung Audio Lab collaborated with HARMAN Professional Solutions to equip the screen with next-generation image quality technology and realistic audio technology, delivering an exceptional viewing experience. HS Kim, President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, explained: “With clearer images, more realistic colors, enhanced audio, and superior display performance, our Cinema LED screen offers viewers an improved experience, making them feel as if they are part of the scene.”

“We are delighted to partner with Lotte Cinema to bring this technology to movie fans, and we hope to further revolutionize the film industry in the future.” The Cinema LED Screen measures approximately 14 meters (46 feet) in width and 6 meters in height. It can be adjusted and configured according to the cinema environment to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and image quality. The display integrates HDR technology into an extra-large screen with a resolution of 4096×2160 (ultra-high-definition 4K) and a peak brightness of 146 fL, which is 10 times higher than standard projector technology.

The screen actually consists of 16 LED modules, with a width of 14 meters, and Samsung can adjust the width based on requirements. Samsung installed the ultra-high-definition LED screen in the Super S auditorium of Lotte Cinema, located in the Lotte World Tower in Seoul. The cinema screen produces no distortion, as it supports ultra-high contrast and ultra-low grayscale settings, enabling the presentation of extremely bright colors, deep blacks, and pure whites with exceptional contrast. Lotte Cinema’s “SUPER S” auditorium already featured advanced technology, and Samsung integrated its Cinema LED Screen, HARMAN JBL’s cutting-edge audio technology, and the theater’s existing systems.

How was this integration achieved? Samsung installed powerful speakers along the screen edges, embedded proprietary processing technology, and implemented the JBL Sculpted Surround system. The entire system delivers immersive visual and audio performance, exactly as content creators intend. With Samsung’s Cinema LED screen, cinemas can offer more diverse services to meet different audience needs.

The display maintains outstanding performance even in varying dark environments and ambient lighting conditions. When venues wish to use the theater space for other purposes—such as corporate conferences, concerts, live sports broadcasts, or esports tournaments—the Samsung Cinema LED screen is perfectly suited for these applications.

Wonchun Cha, CEO of Lotte Cinema, stated: “The SUPER S theater represents a new paradigm in film projection. Through our partnership with Samsung, we will introduce new high-definition technologies to the film industry, enhance the viewing environment, provide diverse content, and ultimately improve customer satisfaction.”
