English Translation

Recently, some customers have asked whether indoor LED displays can be relocated for outdoor use after being operated for a period of time. In fact, converting indoor LED displays to outdoor ones is not feasible at all, for the following key reasons:

1. Viewing Distance Limitations

Indoor LED displays are designed for short viewing distances, with common pixel pitches ranging from P0.5, P0.87, P1.25, P1.5 to P1.8. They generally feature relatively small screen sizes. By contrast, outdoor LED displays require a long viewing distance, with typical pixel pitches between P1 and P7. Most outdoor screens cover a large area, far exceeding the size of indoor models.

2. Waterproof Performance Limitations

Indoor LED displays are structurally non-waterproof at the basic level, with only minimal water-resistant treatment applied in a few cases. Outdoor LED displays have stringent waterproof requirements, as they are exposed to wind, rain, thunder and lightning all year round. During production, dedicated waterproof processing is implemented for cables, cabinets and other components, and the cabinet structure is also designed differently for outdoor scenarios.

3. Brightness Limitations

Indoor LED displays adopt dynamic scanning circuits with low brightness requirements. Outdoor LED displays, however, need high brightness and are equipped with static scanning circuits. There are substantial hardware differences between the two types. Dynamic scanning is mainly used to cut hardware costs, and the number of driver chips used for indoor screens is less than one-tenth of that for outdoor products. Accordingly, indoor LED displays deliver low brightness, which is only suitable for indoor environments.
In conclusion, indoor and outdoor LED displays differ fundamentally in brightness standards, waterproof design and pixel pitch selection. Their raw materials, accessories, cabinets and other hardware are all customized respectively during production. Therefore, converting an indoor display for outdoor use is not recommended, as it will only lead to continuously degraded display performance.
